+++ | MARIAH INFORMATION: FAN CLUB ARCHIVES |
In 1991 Mariah signed up for fan club management services with Fan Emporium, a division of FansRULE, Inc. Within the first week of the initial announcement, nearly 5,000 letters were received at the fan club offices. A year later, the club was in full swing, offering members two 8x10 photographs, fan club photo pin, membership card, Mariah’s exclusive biography and personal fact sheet, access to the members only section of the fan club website and fan club information hotline, quarterly newsletters and exclusive merchandise offers, preferred seating to sold-out concerts, opportunities to meet Mariah and much more.
This partnership lasted until 2002 when Joyce Logan, the president of Mariah’s fan club, resigned from FansRULE, where she was named the vice president of fan services. During Joyce’s helm, twenty eight Official Mariah Carey Fan Club newsletters were published, each featuring a personal message from Mariah herself and candid photos from her travels around the world. Before millions were exposed to the Internet and instant communication, these newsletters came to be the centerpiece for contact between Mariah and her fans, as many of the newsletters featured a question-and-answer section, in which Mariah would personally answer some of her fans’ most asked questions. Other newsletters featured fan letters with commentaries from Mariah and contests which enabled fans to personally meet Mariah backstage at her concerts, television appearances, and special luncheons. These newsletters are long out of print and are no longer available so check them out now in this retrospective look at the Official Mariah Carey Fan Club newsletters: |
Mariah’s new official fan club, Honey B. Fly, launched on April 14, 2003. By signing up, members would receive an introductory letter from Mariah, fan club t-shirt, membership card and a pre-printed autographed 8x10 photo. Membership also included opportunities to meet Mariah in person and purchase pre-sale concert tickets, live chats with Mariah, rare and unreleased music and video, special fan club only contests, exclusive merchandise and discounts on general merchandise, twice yearly glossy newsletters and much more! Because Mariah connects with her fans on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so frequently, she decided that the fan club was no longer progressive and obsolete. With the advancement of social media platforms, the fan club has since been turned into an official message board. You can log on here.
