Number 01:
Published in 1992, the premiere issue of Mariah's fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer, and a photo gallery featuring candid photos, and information regarding a pen pal exchange. Mariah's Message:
Dear Friends,
I’m sitting in a trailer on a beach in Long Island getting ready to take pictures for my 1993 calendar and other merchandise that will be coming out soon. I just wanted to take some time to let you know that I can’t thank you enough for expressing your appreciation of my music and all your support. It’s been an incredibly exciting and busy 18 months for me. From recording the “Emotions” album to performing on the Grammys, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Soul Train Show, MTV Music Awards, Arsenio Hall, to my trip to Europe where I did various TV shows and appearances. In the middle of all this, I released 3 singles and 3 videos from the “Emotions” album and put together an acoustic band for MTV Unplugged. From that performance came a new single and video entitled “I’ll Be There.” Obviously, I haven’t had time to put together a tour, which requires so much time, planning and preparation. When I tour, I want to be able to devote all of my energy into making the best possible live show that I can. My latest project is a release of my home video, “Mariah Carey Unplugged +3.” It’s the entire MTV Unplugged Show plus my three latest videos. I also included my own personal home movies that have been taken over the past year during rehearsals of TV shows, at home, and on vacation. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Thanks again for being here for me through it all. |

Published in 1992, the second issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", a special fan-submitted "Mariah Quiz", a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah posing with merchandise soon to be available and relaxing and having fun at home with her dog Princess and horse Kid, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Dear Friends,
Right now, I’m sitting in a studio in New York just beginning my next album. I’ve been incredibly busy working all summer – writing, producing and co-producing for my good friend and former back-up singer, Trey Lorenz (who sang on “I’ll Be There”), as well as writing for my album. In what little spare time there was this summer, I had a lot of fun horseback riding, swimming and hanging out with my friends. But, the summer went by so fast and now I’m back in the studio. I just wanted to take this time to say thank you so much to all of my Fan Club members for your continued support. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. |
Number 03:
Published in 1993, the third issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", a special fan-submitted "Mariah Word Puzzle", fan letters, interesting facts, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah posing with her recently-won American Music Awards, at home cooking and playing with her dog Jack, and riding Kid (her Quarter Horse), and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hi Everybody!
Well, I’m still hard at work on my new album. But today is Sunday, so I’m off! I just finished baking brownies (I’ve been cooking a lot in my spare time lately and I really enjoy it!). So, I decided to write this letter while I wait for my brownies to cool! I’ve been in the studio almost every day since last summer when I started working on Trey Lorenz’s album and then I immediately began working on my own album (which should be done in May or June). I really feel like it’s a step forward for me and I hope all of you will be as pleased with it as I am. I had a great time at the American Music Awards. It was so gratifying to win an award that represented the public’s approval of my work! It really is a dream come true and I just want to thank you all again for helping to make it happen for me! Thank you everybody! I couldn’t do it without your support and I am very grateful to you all! Until next time. |
Number 04:
Published in 1993, the fourth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", fan letters, interesting facts, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah on the set of the "Dreamlover" music video, preparing for her NBC-TV special and a behind-the-scenes look at her wedding, and information regarding the pen pal exchange. Mariah's Message:
Dear Friends,
Wow! What an exciting time this has been for me! As I’m sure most of you heard, I got married in June, I completed my new album for you, which will be released this month, and I’ve just completed filming my first NBC-TV special, which will air in November! I’m very excited about my new album “Music Box,” that I’ve been working on for the past year. My new video, “Dreamlover” was shot in upstate New York and I rode in a hot air balloon and swam with my dog, Jack. I had a lot of fun hanging out with the dancers in the video and my friends. I hope you like it. Filming my NBC-TV special was fantastic! We filmed the concert footage at the Proctor’s Theater in Schenectady, New York, and I’d like to thank the Fan Club members who were able to make the journey there – your support meant so much to me! I’m also getting ready to do some tour dates starting in November and December. I’m really excited about that. I’ve been working with three great back-up singers – Melonie, Sheree and Kelly. They have helped to give me a new sound to my album and they are a lot of fun to be around. I hope you like the new album – it’s a little bit different for me. There are a lot of new songs that I’m really proud of. It took a long time, but I really have enjoyed writing and producing this album. As you can tell, I’ve been more than busy lately, but feeling your love and support make it all worth it! I hope that you’ll enjoy everything. Thanks again for all your support – you’re the best! |

Number 05:
Published in 1993, the fifth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", fan letters, interesting facts, a special fan-submitted "Mariah Maze" crossword puzzle, a "Where's Mariah?" contest, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah in France, Germany, Holland and England and proofing an issue of her fan club newsletter, and information regarding the pen pal exchange and new information hotline. Mariah's Message:
Hi Everybody!
Sorry it’s taken such a long time to write, but I’ve been so busy rehearing and starting the tour. I can’t believe it! I’m really having a lot of fun finally meeting and singing for everyone who has supported me for the past three years! Right now, I’m in Canada doing some television interviews. I flew in after my show in Worcester, MA (which was so much fun). Now, I’m getting ready to go home for the weekend and get a little rest (finally!). I can’t wait to see all my animals and relax for a few days until my next show. Hope you liked my NBC Special, which aired on Thanksgiving night. It was a lot of fun to make and thank you to everyone in the audience who helped me make it. Everybody I’m with on the road is so much fun. They help keep me from getting lonely and bored in my travels. Once again, thanks so much for your continued support. I really appreciate it so much. |
Number 06:
Published in 1994, the sixth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", fan letters, interesting facts, pen pals, Mariah's Spring Quarter contest, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah at home, in the studio and shooting a video for her Chritmas album, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hi Everybody!
It’s finally Spring! The winter was long and hard, but I had a lot of fun on tour, and over the holidays! Hope you did too! I just have to thank you for making “Music Box” my most successful album yet. It’s been #1 in the U.S. and England, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and in the Top 5 in Japan, Ireland, Sweden, Spain and Italy. A special thanks to all of my American fans, and those of you abroad, who have supported this album. I’m back in the studio again working on a Christmas album (to be released sometime in October) and some new remixes of “Anytime You Need a Friend.” I’m also getting ready to shoot a new video for “Anytime You Need a Friend” which will be coming out soon. As you can see from the photos in this issue, my work isn’t always glamorous. Some of these photos are from a photo shoot we did in the middle of a major blizzard. That’s me with the frozen hair. In the months ahead I have some great surprises coming up for you. Wish I could tell you more, but hopefully I can share these things with you in our next newsletter. I’m so grateful for your love and support! |
Number 07:
Published in 1994, the seventh issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, a fan question-and-answer titled "Mariah's Mail Bag", fan letters, interesting facts, pen pals, Mariah's Fall Quarter contest, pen pals, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah at the airport and on promotional trips in Europe, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Dear Fans,
I have so much news to share with you. My new single duet of “Endless Love” with Luther Vandross was recently released. I have loved this song since I was a little girl, and Luther has always been one of my idols, so it was a great honor and thrill to work with him on this project. “Merry Christmas,” my new holiday album will follow and is to be released by the end of October. This album has both classic Christmas favorites like “Silent Night,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” along with three new songs which I’ve written. I had a lot of fun recording this album. It was a totally new experience for me working from a very different perspective on my music. I hope it will brighten up the holidays for you and those you love. Keep an eye out for some new Christmas videos, too. Were you surprised by my straight hair in the “Anytime You Need a Friend” video? I finally found someone who could make my hair really straight, so I tried a change. Don’t sorry, if you prefer the curls, they are still there. I had a wonderful trip through Europe in June, where I saw fans and performed in England, Germany, Spain and France. I’ll be returning to England and Germany in September and hope to see many of my friends again in those countries. Did you get a chance to see me on David Letterman or Arsenio Hall’s farewell show? If so, you saw Ginger, my new 4 pound Yorkshire Terrier. She’s adorable but very young, so I’m in the process of training her on good behavior. Congratulations to Shanrae, my terrific backup singer, who gave birth in August to an 8.2 lb baby boy named Tai Lascelles. Hope you had a great summer. Good luck to all of you going back to school and once again, thank you for all your love and support, it means so much to me! |
Number 08:
Published in 1995, the eight issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter from Mariah, fan letters, interesting facts, pen pals, Mariah's "How Many?" contest, a photo gallery featuring candid photos of Mariah, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Dear Fans,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. I had Christmas all year long in ’94 because I was working on my “Merry Christmas” album from last January until this December. I had so much fun making this album and I hope that you enjoyed it too! Thank you so much to all the fans all over the world for making my Christmas album such a success. In December we announced that I am putting my personal efforts behind a charity called the Fresh Air Fund, to help raise money and to work directly with underprivileged children. They have built a new camp called Camp Mariah (a very authentic-sounding name, ha, ha!). This new career camp is for kids aged 12-15. It introduces them to boating, swimming, hiking, camping and other outdoor and country activities, as well as career ideas and goals. On December 8th, I gave a concert at St. John the Divine in New York City that raised about $750,000 for the Fresh Air Fund! During the December 7th rehearsal for this concert I was on satellite for my acceptance of Billboard’s Female Artist of the Year Award. This was a great honor and I just want to thank all of you for making “Music Box” so successful. Believe it or not, I’m back in the studio already recording a brand new album which I am totally psyched about! I am working with a lot of great co-producers and have almost all the songs written already. This issue contains some pictures from the holidays and at the Fresh Air Fund Camp. I hope you enjoy them. Thanks again for all your love and support. It really means so much to me. |

Published in 1995, the ninth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter and photos from Mariah, fan letters and photos, interesting facts and news, pen pals, a contest, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hello Everybody!
I hope you’ve all had a great summer so far! I’ve been really busy this spring and summer recording in the studio, but I wanted to take a break from my schedule to send you a letter. Guess what? I’m finally done with the album (almost) and I’m very excited about the release of the first single “Fantasy.” I’ve been writing and recording with Dave Hall, who worked with me on “Dreamlover,” Jermaine Dupri (Da Brat and Xscape), Walter Afanasieff of course, and Babyface again. I feel very good about the project. There are also some interesting remixes of the first single which are in the works right now. And there’s a surprise collaboration with some very special guests – it’s one of my favorites off the album – but that’s all I’m going to tell you! While recording these past few months, I have managed to take some time off and relax. I tried skiing for the first time this spring at a resort in Colorado. Skiing was a wild experience! I had a really good time, and hope to spend more time out there. Later, I went to Florida for a few days to relax and lie on the beach. I also went to an amusement park while I was there – one of my favorite things to do! Recently the studio in my house was finished, and I was able to wrap up the album there. I’ve been working long hours to complete the new material, and I hope to do a lot of work there in the future. In addition to recording, I’ve just directed my first video for the upcoming single, “Fantasy.” It was hard work to be on both sides of the camera, but it’s a great creative outlet for me, and for the first time I will have my own vision end up on the screen. Well, I’d better get back to the studio so I can finish up this album! Thanks, always, for your love and support. |
Number 10:
Published in 1996, the tenth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter and photos from Mariah, fan letters and photos, interesting facts and news, pen pals, a contest, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hello!
I hope all is well with everyone! I’ve been very busy since my last letter to you traveling around the world promoting my new album “Daydream.” I’ll tell you more about that later. I’m glad that all of you enjoyed the first single off the album – “Fantasy.” Growing up I’ve always loved the song “Genius of Love” by The Tom Tom Club, and I thought that it would be a great sample to use along with my melody. It is because of you that “Fantasy” debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 Singles in Billboard, and I thank you so much! I had a great time doing the “Fantasy” remix and the remix video with O.D.B. I think it was an interesting and fun collaboration – I hope you all liked it. “One Sweet Day” is very special to me because I had the opportunity to work with the very talented Boyz II Men. It’s really ironic how my ideas for this song were so similar to Nathan’s – it seemed like fate that this all came together. Boyz II Men are really fun to work with. We had a great time recording this song in New York. I hope you all enjoyed the Fox Special in October. I loved seeing all of the faces that have been supporting me. The hardest part of the whole thing was to start a song and have to stop in the middle of it but in the end it was all worth it! I even got to bring my dog Jack out on stage and showcase his talents for the audience. You can see him in pictures from the special. After the Fox Special, I worked on the third single from the album, “Always Be My Baby.” I decided to direct again. We shot the video at Camp Mariah in Fishkill, NY. Although it was freezing all three days we were shooting, we managed to keep warm because we were around a campfire. Recently I’ve made three trips to Europe. The trips were very hectic, but fun! I’ve been to Paris, London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Rome, Stockholm and Bremen. We were moving around quickly but it was great to see all my fans in Europe. I’ve done a lot of interviews and live performances on TV shows. I also did in-store appearances in Madrid, London and Paris which were incredible! I really enjoyed meeting all of my fans and I thank you guys so much for coming out to see me! I filmed the entire trip with my Super 8 camera and included the footage in the “Joy To The World” remix video, which was out briefly during Christmas. Don’t worry if you didn’t see it because I’m going to re-release it during Christmas ’96. When I was home in between some of the European trips, I decided to do a remix for “Always Be My Baby.” The remix is a collaboration between Jermaine Dupri (the producer and co-writer), Da Brat and Xscape. The song is a fusion of the melody of the album version with the music of “Tell Me If You Still Care” by the SOS Band. Xscape and I did the background vocals and Da Brat did the rap. We recorded it at my house, where we also filmed the remix video. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it! In the remix video you will see my newest pet – he was a surprise gift from Tommy for “Fantasy” debuting at #1. His name is Puff. He’s a white Himalayan cat. He is so adorable! I’m also happy to report that my childhood friend Clarence, the tabby cat, my favorite pet in the whole world, whom I’ve had since third grade, is doing well and living with me again (he used to live with my mother). Maybe it’s time for his video debut?! So as you can see I’ve been working non-stop but I did get some time to enjoy myself at the Annual Halloween party. It was a lot of fun to be able to just hang out with my friends and relax! Some of the costumes were really great. Right now I’m gearing up for my first Japanese tour! We’ll be doing three Tokyo Dome concerts, which are 45,000 people a night! I’m very excited about it. I’m currently working on the sets and rehearsing. I’m looking forward to seeing all my Japanese fans who have supported me for such a long time. I will be filming the concerts so possibly I’ll put it out sometime down the road. Thanks for being so patient waiting for this letter, but it’s important that I do it myself so that’s why it takes so long sometimes. So please forgive me! Again, thanks for your love and support. It means so much to me! |
Number 11:
Published in 1996, the eleventh issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter and photos from Mariah, fan letters and photos, news items, pen pals, a contest, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hi Everyone!
Well, since my last letter a lot has been going on, but I wanted to take a minute to write a brief hello! I recently got back from Japan where I did three shows at the Tokyo Dome and just finished touring in Europe. It was a great experience to be on stage again and to see all my fans! We designed the set to resemble a ballroom. There was a chandelier made of moving mirrors and lights and a staircase modeled after Coco Chanel’s staircase. For the opening I came down in a three-story birdcage elevator. It was pretty amazing. Here and inside you will see Dome photos – hope you like them! I just finished touring Europe and had a great time. The shows were a lot of fun! I performed in Frankfurt, Rotterdam, Paris and did my last show in London. I hope everyone is having a great summer. Thanks again for all your love and support! P.S. A special thanks to Christine Seki in Japan. |
Number 12:
Published in 1996, the twelfth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter and photos from Mariah, fan letters and photos, news items, pen pals, a contest, and notes from Mariah's fan club president. Mariah's Message:
Hi Guys!
Hope you all had a good summer – I can’t believe it flew by so quickly! Well, when I lost wrote you I was on tour in Europe. I had a great time performing overseas. The audiences were amazing! A kid named Boris in Amsterdam had a sign that said “Can I Have A Hug?” and I asked him up on stage. It turns out he had written me a letter telling me that he had hoped I would see him. It was a bizarre coincidence! I really enjoyed seeing the fans and I wish I could have gone to more countries – definitely next time! In July, Columbia threw me a platinum party at Rye Playland for the success of “Daydream.” The pictures are of me and some of the friends and artists who attended. We went on the Dragon Coaster (the one from the “Fantasy” video) and some of the other rides. Besides that, I went on a few little trips this summer. In August, I made a few trips up to Camp Mariah and I brought some people with me to talk to the kids about career choices. Da Brat and Jermaine Dupri came with me the first time, and radio personalities Ed Lover, Dr. Dre and Kurt Flirt joined me in the latter part of the summer. The kids really enjoyed these people taking time out to come to ask questions, take pictures and get autographs. I think it’s really important for them to get a chance to talk to people who are actually in the business. It makes them realize that they should continue to work toward their goals because in the long run it pays off! After a very busy summer, I’ve been busy writing, producing and working with some new groups which will be out soon on my label, Crave. I’ve also started working on my next album. I don’t know when it will be completed, but I’ve started and I do have plans to do a big tour for the first time – so hopefully I’ll see all of you in the near future! Well take care – can you believe it’s already time to get ready for the holidays? – I’ll talk to you then! |

Published in 1997, the thirteenth issue of Mariah's official fan club newsletter includes a personal letter and photos from Mariah, fan letters and photos, a special fan-submitted Mariah Word Seach puzzle, news items, pen pals, and a contest. Mariah's Message:
Hi Guys!
Hope everyone received my postcard and had a great Christmas. I celebrated Christmas at home in New York, again without any snow. Tommy gave me a new golden retriever who I named Bear – he’s adorable. The pictures are from Christmas when I got him. I spent New Years with some friends and family in Miami. Let’s see, since I last wrote I attended the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, NV. I actually had a 103 degree fever but I still managed to attend. My new label, Crave, will be announced soon. I’ve been writing and producing some songs for a four girl group called Allure. One of the songs called “Head Over Heels,” I co-wrote and co-produced with the Trackmasters featuring a guest rap by Nas. Hopefully you’re hearing it on the radio now – if you’re not call up and request it! I also wrote a ballad called “Last Chance,” for the girls, which is one of my favorites. We recently finished the Manhattan offices for Crave – it’s been a great experience to be involved in the business, as well as the creative end of things. As for my own album, I’m still writing and recording. Hopefully it will be out by summer, followed by a world tour! The one you’ve all been asking about. Well it’s time for me to get back to the studio and I’ll talk to you soon! |

Well I have to get back to the studio, but I’ll definitely see you guys when I start my world tour in October. Take care! |
